The Clarion Collection Hotel Bilan lies close to Karlstad's central shopping district. Just a short walk will take you to Stora Torget and its nearby shops and restaurants. Karlstad's biggest attractions aren't far away at all; Karlstad CCC (Congress Culture Centre) and Nöjesfabriken (entertainment centre) are within 2 - 5 minutes walking distance.

Rooms

The 73 non smoking rooms are decorated in colours with a warm and charming feel, which simultaneously evoke thoughts of the building's time as a prison. Some pictures and anecdotes from previous "guests" adorn the walls.

Evening Meal and Afternoon Sweets included

We want to make things easy for you here at the Clarion Collection Hotel Bilan. All our guests can enjoy a main course, soup and salad in the evening, as well as tea and coffee with something sweet in the afternoon. This is always included in the price when you stay with us.

From county prison to hotel

The Clarion Collection Hotel Bilan has a long and exciting history. It was built in the mid-1800s and until 1968 it was used as a prison. The cellar is home to a fascinating prison museum and the updated rooms feature anecdotes from former inmates. Several of Sweden's most notorious criminals have been incarcerated here, with Raskenstam as the most famous "guest". Despite the metre-thick walls, there were quite a few escapees. The most common method is said to have been the old classic, using a file to make a tunnel and bed sheets as ropes.

There is 14 private parking lots at the hotel at a cost of 120 Sek per night. The parking can not be pre-reserved.
